Dog Walking City & Guilds Level 2

The City & Guilds Level 2 certificate in dog walking is ideal if you want to begin working in the animal care industry and would like to learn the skills required for walking dogs, or for people already working within the industry to gain a certificate of technical competence. The course runs at Sue's studio in Derbyshire and is designed for candidates aged 16+.

You will gain practical skills and knowledge that are important for working as a competent dog walker. This qualification could also allow progress to further learning and training in this area.

Mandatory content covers:

  • Roles and responsibilities of a professional dog walker
  • Legislation and codes of practice
  • Breeds and behaviour
  • Walking and controlling a dog
  • Problems, injuries and emergencies

Assessment includes:

  • Task A: Record sheets for completion on meeting a new client
  • Task B: Behavioural assessment of a dog
  • Task C: Take a dog for a walk, including preparation and give feedback to client
  • Task D: Potential risks and dangers on a dog walk and how to deal with them

There are no other recognised qualifications for dog walkers at this level, therefore this qualification demonstrates to both employers and public that the candidate has the practical skills and knowledge required of a professional dog walker.
